Newark Training Files

ATCTrainer files:

  • EWR - GND

The sweatbox should begin with a simulated relief briefing. At the end of the sweatbox, the student should give you a briefing.

Clearance Delivery
  • At least 6 IFR aircraft must be cleared on each config (NE and SW)
  • LGA landing ILS 13 must be discussed and practiced on at least one aircraft. The student is not expected to have this memorized, however they should be able to find where it is in the SOP and be able to recite it
  • LDJ IFR departures must be discussed with N801P. If you have time, have the student try a clearance - the student is not expected to be perfect on their first attempt, just ensure they understand it
  • All 4 VFR aircraft must be cleared
    • N2280Q must be used as an example for the Skyline Route
    • N232MH must be used as an example for a Helicopter Departure
    • N5331F must be used as an example for Pattern Work
    • N824WT must be used as an example for VFR Flight Following
Ground
  • At least 4 fixed-wing aircraft should be taxied on each config (NE and SW)
  • Helicopter N232MH must request takeoff from the helipad. The student should understand to send them to tower
  • At least 1 situation must be created where the student has to instruct an aircraft to hold postition or give way
  • Ensure the student understands the concepts behind sequencing and discuss some ways to accomplish this at EWR
  • Arriving aircraft should be added
  • Discuss taxiway ownership

ATCTrainer files:

  • EWR - TWR - 22s
  • EWR - TWR - 4s
  • Easy and Medium difficulties are included in each file.

    Easy provides limited aircraft for an introductory session. This file is not required to be run.

    Medium should be used for network certification.


    The following should be discussed and/or demonstrated in the Sweatbox before a certification is granted.

    Theory

    • EWR Tower Airspace and adjacent sectors
    • NY Class B airspace
    • Management of VFR traffic along the Skyline Route
    • VFR traffic transitioning to and from the South Shore
    • Overflights over the field
    • EWR departures joining the Skyline Route
    • Helicopter operations departing/arriving EWR and off-airport helipads within tower's surface area
    • Traffic call phraseology
    • Wake turbulence separation
    • Intersection departures
    • Runway crossings
    • Management and coordination of missed approach's and/or go arounds

    Practical

    Both the EWR - TWR - 22s and the EWR - TWR - 4s files must be ran for network certification.

    IFR

    Arriving aircraft do not need to be added manually, they will spawn automatically.

    At least 1 missed approach and/or go-around must be practiced on each config.

    VFR

    VFR aircraft will spawn at a predefined time and follow their route automatically. The following aircraft are included.

    22s

    • 0 minutes: N18284 - Skyline southbound to South Shore. Simulate H/O from LGA Local
    • 0 minutes: N215PJ - Over Sandy Hook. Cold Call for Skyline northbound
    • 2 minutes: N20TV - Southwest of EWR. Heli Cold Call for LINDEN Route to TEB
    • 4 minutes: N3054E - Southwest of EWR. Simulate H/O from ARD for full stop
    • 6 minutes: N461FA - Will taxi to runway 22R (Full Length) automatically. VFR departure to the southwest, no flight following
    • 9 minutes: N641HA - Northwest of EWR. Cold Call for Heli Arrival. Use parking gate H1 for Z5 helipad

    4s

    • 0 minutes: N825AL - West of EWR. Cold Call for transition onto Skyline Route northbound. Route will have them cross the 4s numbers, then join the Skyline. If needed to vector of the route, you can put them back by putting the aircraft direct KJRA or ZLNGR
    • 0 minutes: N340BG - On South Shore westbound, simulate H/O from JFK Local for Skyline northbound
    • 4 minutes: N543LK - Will taxi to runway 11 automatically. Departure for Skyline southbound, request no flight following after the VZ. You may put the aircraft direct CLEEO or VEZEE to join skyline
    • 7 minutes: N181R - At Z5 helipad. VFR departure to the southwest, no flight following
    • 8 minutes: N375MT - Skyline southbound to LDJ. They will automatically turn off the skyline towards LDJ
    • 9 minutes: N610FA - West of EWR. Cold Call for full stop
    • 10 minutes: N950TV - Heli in SFRA. Request west transition over EWR

    • The student should sign on as Newark Departure.
    • Use the "CTO" command to launch satellite departures.

        • LXJ371 (E55P) - WHITE

    4's Configuration

    • TEB arrivals will be automatically vectored in. Ensure aircraft are not vectored into them.
    • LGA west gate departures are simulated. Ensure aircraft are not climbed into them.
