This page is designed to provide a guide to interfacility handoffs in the Center and TRACON airspace within ZNY.

Handoff Guide

ZNY Handoff Guide

  • The bold blue line is the outline of the NY Center airspace
  • The thin black lines (except for RDG and WRI, which are gray) are the outlines of TRACON airspace
  • Below the name of each TRACON or Center is a letter. That letter is the prefix NY Center uses to hand off to a given position in the TRACON's STARS system from ERAM. Positions within the TRACON use the same identifier as they would within the TRACON. For example, from ZNY to N90 ROBER, the controller would type N2K (N for the N90 TRACON, 2K for the ROBER position). Handoffs from ZNY to the Sector 32 ERAM scope in ZDC would be W32 (W for Washington Center, 32 for sector 32).
  • At the border between TRACONs is a number. When handing off to an adjacent TRACON, this number along with the Δ symbol (accessed by pressing the ` key on your keyboard, on US Keyboards this is to the left of the 1 key) must prefix the position identifier within the adjacent TRACON. For example, for a controller in the PHL TRACON to hand off to the Yardley scope in N90, the PHL controller would type Δ14P (Δ1 for the N90 TRACON, 4P for Yardley).
  • TRACONs that wish to hand off to a Center controller would use C for ZNY, or the designated letter for other centers (B for Boston, for example). The exception to this is the MDT TRACON, which uses N for ZNY because it borders JST TRACON, and can be covered Top-Down by ZOB, so would need to use C to hand off to ZOB if no specific JST TRACON scope is open.
  • Note that the handoff identifiers on the CRC controller list will only reflect your primary position, not the window you have focused. So for Center controllers who have an N90 2K scope open, and want to hand off from that scope to the 1N scope in the PHL TRACON, you will need to type Δ21N on your N90 2K scope, even though your controller list will say P1N. The controller list displays P1N because that is what you would use to hand off from your ERAM scope, which is your primary scope.
